First and foremost, I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! If you have been an avid reader of mine, you know that Memorial Day is one of my favorite weekends. Oh, I just love it!
In my head, I swore I had another week till I could write about Memorial Day. I found out real quick that I indeed missed my chance. Where on earth has the month gone!? If I ever miss a holiday or something special, just know that Andrea just wasn’t on her game that week. I apologize. I try to keep up as best I can! Happy kick-off to summer, guys. I hope you had an awesome weekend and remembered those who lost their lives serving our America!
So lucky you, you get the second half of the bear story a week sooner now! I bet you were just on the edge of your seat!
Tis the season for more wildlife. The warm weather brings everything out, and it’s so neat to watch.
Once we knew there was for sure a bear, we decided to hook our live camera back up. But instead of just putting one out back, we decided to put another one out front to see if we could catch the bandit who stole our bird feeder.
Oh! And we found the neighbor of the missing bird feeder! It was our neighbors across the street. He had also shown up at their house, but Mr. Schneider told me he had seen a smaller bear when I walked over to let him know we had seen a large bear multiple times at our place.
We put the camera out on a Wednesday. Nothing that night. Thursday, we went to my momma and stepdad’s for dinner. We hadn’t been there in a while and stayed till about dark. We got home that evening and got ready for bed. My husband was getting tired, so he drifted into la la land at about 10:15. I stayed awake and played on my phone a bit until I felt tired.
At 10:45, my phone went off, saying, “Motion detection on Wildlife Cam.” I clicked over to it to see what it was. I figured it was the typical spider web or wildlife that comes in to enjoy the corn. My phone loaded the video, and there he was. A huge bear! He was just making himself right at home. I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes!
“Chris, Chris!” I sorta whispered as I was shaking his bodily lightly. “The bear is outside, and he is huge!”
His head popped right up to look at my phone. We sat there watching him for over ten minutes. He would lay his head down, just like he was trying to fall asleep. I watched him for a total of forty minutes that night. It was the coolest thing!
The next night, Friday night, the same thing happened. Our camera went off at about 9 p.m. Big Jeff was back. This time, we put the video up on our TV and watched it live so we could see him even better. Again, we watched him for 30 minutes that night, and Kenzy thought it was just the coolest thing.
He took off, and Chris went to grab the spotlight. My heart started pounding as he was putting down a window to see if we could see him.
Sure enough, there he stood in the middle of the yard. Never ran. Just stood there for about a minute, then walked up one of our paths that comes off our yard into our woods. Wow. What a cool experience to be able to watch a bear that long and then see him right out your window feet away.
He would come in around 1 to 3 a.m. the next week or so. Of course, we were sound asleep, but there was a video of him in the morning.
The only thing on our front porch camera was one night of our fern blowing in the wind and another night a spider made a cobweb. Nothing crazy.
Let’s jump to a few nights ago. We got home in the dark from my niece’s birthday party on Saturday night at about 10 p.m. They live right up the road. Our darn camera had kept going off out back that night because a cobweb was on it again, so the motion kept going off. We pulled up the driveway, and my husband said to Kenzy, “Hey Kenz, do Daddy a favor and run out back and get the cobweb off the camera, please.”
I said, “Are you out of your mind!? It’s pitch black out there, and there is a 350-400-pound bear running around here. If you want to go out and take your chances, go for it, but our daughter is not stepping foot out there!” He started laughing. I have a feeling he was teasing her because he would never put our daughter in harm’s way. He probably did it to get a rise out of me, and it worked! I wouldn’t step foot out there after dark! Ya crazy!? No way I’d send either of my kids after dark.
So there Chris went, heading out back to get this pesky cobweb off our camera in the dark, silent woods on his own. I went out to the dining room to at least turn on our back porch light so he could see better, and I wanted to make sure he was still alive. I didn’t love him going out there, either!
Well, wait till you hear what happens next.
Yes — another cliffhanger. Part three!? Say what!?
Don’t you just love me!? Sorry, I have a limit of words I have to stick to, but it gives me plenty to share this month with more that just happened!! Man, I love me a good cliffhanger…
