One thing I was never good at was being a testimony to others about Jesus in person.

I idolized my Gram, Lois Liddick. She would witness to anyone, anywhere. “Let me tell you about my Jesus,” she would say. I remember her and Pap having a blue and white sticker on their storm door off their back porch that read; “This house is protected by Jesus.” On her car, she had the Christian fish emblem. She wanted everyone to know how much she loved her Lord! It was so inspiring.

This Memorial Day, I’ll have to share a special story about my gram and her love for America also. She would defend her Lord and America over and over again. I wish I had the guts to go up and speak to people about Jesus, but it was something that I felt I just couldn’t do. It wasn’t me. Gram made it look so natural and easy. How she glowed when she talked about her Lord, Jesus Christ.

Growing up in a Christian family, I saw how Jesus worked in our lives. Was life always easy because of this? No. But did it help knowing Jesus? ONE HUNDRED PERCENT! I am not going to sit here and type that I am the perfect Christian. No one is a perfect Christian or perfect period. Sorry boo boo, if you thought you were, and I just burst your bubble. We all were born sinners; even after being saved, we sin. This is why we have Easter!!

Listen, I’ve thought and thought about what to write for my Easter column and prayed about it. I only knew it would be about Jesus. I just sat down and started typing. God always seems to give me the words. I just get my little fingers typing, and God does all the work. I may not be able to witness in person as well, but let me tell you, I can write about my Lord all day!

You folks just need to know what an awesome God we have. I can’t imagine going through things even in my everyday life without him. I talk to him so often! I thank him, I praise him, and I give all my worries to him. It’s like having a best friend who is with you 24/7. But some folks say Christians are the biggest hypocrites, so they don’t want to be one.

“Why do you say one thing then act another way? Why don’t you practice what you preach?”

First, I want to say that not everyone claiming to be a Christian is a Christian. Some people do awful things and claim that they are doing it for God, but that doesn’t mean they are all actually Christians.

But secondly, people who are Christian aren’t always perfect. Christians sometimes do or say the wrong thing, and they hurt people. Maybe you’ve been hurt by Christians in the past, and I’m sorry about that.

If you want to know what being perfect looks like, you need to look at Jesus. He never messes up or gets stuff wrong. He shows what a perfect life looks like: it means loving God perfectly and loving each other perfectly. Now, I don’t know about you, but I don’t always live like that. Far from it! I just try my best each and every day.

When someone rides my tail on my Harley, do you think I act like a Christian, smile, wave, and let them pass me? NOPE. And y’all, I don’t think Jesus would either! Haha! When Jesus meets the religious people of his day — a group called the Pharisees — he straight up calls them exactly what they are: hypocrites. He says they make themselves look good on the outside, but on the inside, they are really ugly. And because they lie about who they really are, they make the rest of us feel bad. Jesus says they’ve got God all wrong.

See, being a Christian isn’t about pretending to be good; it’s about admitting that you’ve done wrong. Jesus says he didn’t come for people who have everything all together; he came for troubled people. Jesus doesn’t want us to pretend that we always do the right thing. He wants us to say sorry for the wrong things that we do, and he says he will forgive us if we do.

So, you shouldn’t be surprised if Christians mess up and let you down. Christians are people who know they need to say sorry a lot. But even though becoming a Christian doesn’t make you perfect overnight, it does change how you live. Jesus says that when we follow him, we become more like him! We live more like he lived and care more about what he cares about. We learn to love God more and learn to treat each other better, too. So sometimes, when you see Christians acting in a way that looks hypocritical, it is a great reminder that these are exactly the kind of people that Jesus came to help. We don’t always practice what we preach, but we do want to. Christians are people who say sorry when they mess up, receive forgiveness from Jesus, and ask for his help to live more like him in the future.

God sent his son to die for us on that cross. He was crucified, which is a horrible death. He was whipped, beaten, and wore a crown of thorns around his head with nails in his feet and hands. Can you imagine how awful that would be? He did that for YOU!!! I am here to tell you that if you think because of something you did in your life that, Jesus could never love you, you are wrong. He is knocking at your heart, waiting to come in, and when you do this, the joy of Jesus in your everyday life is a game changer. Will things be perfect? No. But they will be easier because he will carry you through anything. He loves you so much.

This Easter, remember God’s love for you. Nothing you have done or will do will ever stop him from loving you. He wants to be a part of your life. I am so thankful to have the love for Jesus in my heart, which is why I am just a happier person. He makes me so happy and can make you too! Just believe in him, and tell him to come into your heart. He will truly change your life, now and forever. Happy Easter!!

*Perfect for Easter*
Momma’s Dinner Rolls
• 1 cup of warm water
• 2 packs of yeast

Mix together and let stand for 5 minutes.

Then add to mixture:
• 1/2 cup melted butter
• 1/2 cup sugar
• 3 beaten eggs
• 1 tsp salt

Mix well.

Add 4 to 4 1/2 cups of flour, mixing one cup of flour at a time until a ball forms.

Then mix and place in a bowl with saran wrap and place in the refrigerator.

Can bake after 4 hours in the refrigerator or up to 4 days.

Make your rolls, place in a greased 13×9 pan. Bake at 375 for 15-18 minutes or until brown.

Makes 20-24 rolls depending on the size you make them.
