Philadelphia Phillies Designate Cutters as an Official Community Ally

Major League Baseball announced the “Community Ally Program,” which allows MLB Clubs to give an MLB Draft League team the designation of “Official Community Ally” of that MLB Club.

Through this program, MLB Clubs and MLB Draft League teams may collaborate on community-based initiatives, including cross promotion on MLB Club and Draft League team platforms, ballpark and youth participation events, and charitable or fundraising efforts.

As an Official Community Ally, the MLB Draft League team will receive the right to use the MLB Club’s logo as part of an MLB-created Official Community Ally logo to highlight the partnership on the team’s website and in the team’s ballpark, and recognition on the MLB Club’s website and social media channels as an Official Community Ally. All six MLB Draft League teams have established relationships with MLB Clubs: Mahoning Valley Scrappers/Cleveland Guardians; Frederick Keys/Baltimore Orioles; Trenton Thunder/Philadelphia Phillies; Williamsport Crosscutters/Philadelphia; State College Spikes/Pittsburgh Pirates; and West Virginia Black Bears/Pittsburgh. The details of each relationship are subject to approval of the individual MLB Clubs and MLB Draft League team, and more details on each will be forthcoming.

Cutters Unveil Great Potato Caper Merchandise

This season, the Crosscutters commemorate the 35th anniversary of Dave Bresnahan’s Great Potato Caper. Bresnahan created baseball history using a POTATO in a trick play for the Williamsport Bills in 1987, leading to worldwide publicity that continues to this day. To celebrate, the Williamsport Crosscutters will be rebranding to the Great Potato Capers for the August 31 game. The first 1,000 fans attending the game will receive a limited-edition “Potato Ball”. Special Great Potato Caper jerseys, all featuring Bresnahan’s name, will be available to fans in an online auction.

As part of the celebration, the team has introduced exclusive Great Potato Caper merchandise including t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts and more. The limited-edition merchandise is available in the Sawmill Team Store and online at crosscutters.com.
2nd Half Host Families Needed

The Williamsport Crosscutters are currently accepting applications for potential host families for the 2nd half of the 2022 season. While many host families return year after year, the team is always looking to add to their list of availabilities for the players.

“Host families play a crucial role in helping our young players feel comfortable and succeed in a new environment”, said Crosscutters Vice-President of Marketing Gabe Sinicropi. “Families who have opened their homes to Crosscutters players in the past have had positive experiences that include forging lasting relationships.”

The 2022 season ends September 4. Players typically range in age from 17–23. All Host Families are eligible for Cutters game tickets as well as other perks of the Host Family Program.
