A Note From the County Commissioners

The Corona virus has left its devastation and DNA on the world and society. The invisible terrorist named COVID-19 has grasped the world and turned it upside down. The normal lives we had are on hold. It resembles watching a Twilight Zone episode and waiting for Rod Sterling to say, “You have entered a fifth dimension.” We are navigating through unchartered waters together. We currently have one case in Lycoming County but as testing becomes more available that number may very well climb. There is a great deal we do not know about this virus. That is ok because what we do know is that we live in a community where love is witnessed every day. Restaurants are feeding kids who are not in school. Doctors, nurses, EMS, Grocery store associates and many professionals on the frontline working in potentially dangerous conditions. There are so many examples to be shared. We do know that our employment is our livelihood, but our faith, family and friends are our life. During this time please take a moment and spend this precious time we call life with your loved ones.

Many of our businesses due to no fault of their own were directed to close their doors. We pray and love each of them. Once this crisis is over, I would encourage each of you to visit and conduct your business with them. Let them know we need them and how thankful we are they are in communities.

We will recover from this by unity and helping each other during these times. Do not hoard items at the store. We are all in this together.

Our county officials have been in constant contact with health, federal, state and local officials. The County has developed a committee that meets every day via teleconference to discuss issues and establish strategic measures moving forward. It is important for each of us to educate ourselves on facts and not rumors.

Two very helpful websites are www.cdc.gov and www.health.pa.gov These sites are excellent and updated on this pandemic.

Our 1st priority is the health of our citizens. The sooner that everyone takes the measures and precautions recommended by the health officials the sooner we can recover from the havoc that the virus has left in its path.

Remember our forefathers have overcome many similar and even worse challenges. We can do the same but remaining unified. Take care of each other, check on our neighbor or an elderly friend.

At the County press conference held on March 18,2020 I quoted Scripture from the Holy Bible. Joshua 1:9-“Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

There are many things in life that are much bigger than us. This is one of them. Stay well and keep your faith, family and friends close.
