And the Winner is…

And the Winner is…

A very special Happy Birthday to my Great Aunt Mildred, who turns 102 years old today. Just imagine what she has seen in her lifetime since being born in 1918. She is truly a remarkably smart and tough lady who has navigated her time here on God’s green Earth with grace, but when needed, the precision of a Sherman tank.

For those of you keeping score at home, my Great Aunt Mildred Waggett is my Father’s mom Josephine’s sister. She and her husband, my Great Uncle John Waggett, were like great grandparents to my boys when they were growing up. If you would like to drop her a card or note, she resides at Valley View. Happy Birthday, Aunt Mildred, you are loved.

A very quick note on the Impeachment Inquisition of President Donald Trump. Didn’t it end exactly like you thought it would? What a complete waste of taxpayer dollars. It definitely proved that Nancy Pelosi is the most dreadful woman in American history; she has far surpassed Hillary Clinton.

I must give a tip of the cap to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell for finally stepping up. I have not been a big fan of his going all the way back through the Obama administration. It was also good to see Mitt Romney prove just why he has never been a true contender for president of the United States. Now, how about House Democrats getting some work done in Washington for the American people?

Now to what all the middle school-aged young ladies have been waiting for. Those selected to meet Coach Kelly Mazzante and enjoy a night of Lady Bison basketball. The girls will be meeting at my office and travel to Lewisburg with longtime educator and Coach Marilouise Mazzante, AKA Fast Maz. She will be assisted by Coach Katie McKibben-Lloyd who spends a great deal of time coaching young athletes in the Hughesville area. Thanks for your time, ladies.

A tip of my Bison basketball cap to Murray Motors. The brothers Peace, owner Brian, and GM Brent, will be providing a van and driver to take the young ladies on their journey. The Peace brothers from Montoursville have been great fans and supporters of Kelly Mazzante’s efforts over the years.

The girls’ first stop on their trip will be at Matty’s Sporthouse Grill right outside of Lewisburg for some friendship, camaraderie, and a bite to eat. They will then be heading over to Sojka Pavilion to get settled in for some great hoops action. After the game, they will get to spend a little time with Montoursville, Penn State, and Big 10 all-time leading scorer, two-time WNBA champion, and now Bison Assistant Coach Kelly Mazzante.

Did I mention when we started the contest, there were going to be six winners, and I’ve upped it to 10? The more, the merrier. Besides, if Coach Maz and Coach Katie want to scrimmage, you’ve gotta have ten players. What was I thinking?

So, here’s our team for the trip. Lacey Kriebel from South Side, Breanna Bobak Hughesville, Katie Ryder Loyalsock, Bella Mileto, and Sofia Mileto Loyalsock, Jocelyn McCracken Jersey Shore, Joleen Lovley Hughesville, and Emilia Minotti Montoursville, Ellie Brion and Kaylee Graham North Penn Liberty. Have a great time girls! I will follow up in a future column about their trip to Bison land.

Sticking with our hoop dreams theme, congratulations to Lancers’ sharpshooter Aiden Gair on reaching the 1,000 point milestone. He is having one of the best senior seasons in Loyalsock history.

A tip of my Brandon Little League cap to his Mother Denay and Father Jim. We spent a lot of time together making Brandon Little League a better place back in the day. Jim managed Burger King. Denay was a board member and helped out with whatever needed done. Aiden was just a young buck then, maybe t-ball age, he was everybody’s little brother league-wide. A combination of Dennis the Menace and Sonic the Hedgehog. I could tell that even at that age, he was going to be a special athlete.

Aiden, now a senior, has followed up an All-State caliber football season at linebacker, with an All-State basketball season. His 44-point effort against St. John Neumann was something special. He will be continuing his academic and athletic careers at West Chester University, where he will be playing football. Congrats, Aiden! Remember, just keep hitting anything that moves, and you’ll be just fine. Good luck, my man!

God Bless America.
