Y’all know how much I love to write about fun things going on in the area. I loathe when people try to tell me there is nothing to do in this town. And you know that my response to that is, “if you can’t find something to do in the area, you aren’t looking very hard.”

I know, this time of year can be downright depressing. It gets dark early. It’s cold outside. If it has snowed recently, it’s probably dirty and gross and piled up in inconvenient places.
If you ask me, that’s even more of a reason to get out of the house and find something to do.

So, what’s happening in the area in the next few days? Well, I’m glad you asked. Here are just a few of the fun things to do, and events going on the area.

There’s an 80s dance party at the Crippled Bear on Saturday night! Pull out your legwarmers and neon and go have some fun!

If you are getting married in the near-ish future, there is a Bridal Expo on Sunday at the Scottish Rite. It starts at noon.

The Ritz, in Muncy, is hosting its first Vendor Marketplace, Sunday January 26th from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free admission and open to the public! They will have crafters, makers, vendors, consultants and more. The cafe will be open!

CAT YOGA! Yes! Cat yoga at the Cat Tails Cat Cafe! If you love cats and love yoga or would like to try yoga then I have the event for you. It has been very popular in the past and the cats and participants seem to really enjoy it. Julie Kennedy will lead the session. No experience needed. Some mats are available if you don’t have one, but please bring one if you have one. Ages 10 and up are welcome. $15 for the hour. Space is limited. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, or you can stop in or call to make payment to hold your spot.

Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the amazingly talented members of the Uptown Music Collective will hit the stage! Singer/Songwriters Elton John and Billy Joel are two of the most iconic artists in the history of rock and roll. In this one night only concert event, the students of the Uptown Music Collective will pay tribute to both of these giants with a spectacular performance of their greatest hits. With all proceeds from this concert going to support the school’s scholarship fund and free class and workshop initiative. The performance will include powerful performances of Piano Man, It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me, Just the Way You Are, Big Shot, Candle in the Wind, Your Song, Tiny Dancer, Bennie and the Jets, and many more classics hits.
Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Valley Inn in Duboistown brings you the 2nd annual Battle of the Bands. Five bands will compete against each other for the chance to win a $500 cash prize and bragging rights. Contest is based on crowd participation so make sure you go and vote for your favorite band. Proceeds go towards purchasing items for children with parents that have substance abuse disorders. Sound by Steve Reeser, MC by CrystalLee Smith/Raleigh Astin. Door prizes, 50/50, and raffles throughout the night.

These are just a handful of the events happening basically this weekend. This doesn’t mention the bands that are playing all over town. Or the Wine & Design events. Or the make and take pottery events. Or the bingo events.

You could go throw hatchets at the Hatchet House downtown. Or go break stuff at the Break Room on Washington Blvd. Or try your hand at an Escape Room. Go bowling! Go play in the arcade at Kaos! Get all your friends or kids (heck, get ‘em all) together and see who beats who at Laser Tag! Drop into one of the art galleries downtown and see what’s new. Or, check out one of the local museums and learn something you didn’t know before.

Winter in northcentral Pennsylvania can last a verrrrrry long time. It can be seemingly endless at times. You may as well make the most it! Go find something fun to do!

And if you really don’t want to leave the house, consider a board game night (consider adding gems like Exploding Kittens, Unstable Unicorns, or Throw, Throw Burrito to your line-up), or try something like Hunt-a-Killer or Mysterious Package Company! Just because you may be stuck inside (by choice or otherwise), doesn’t mean you can’t drum up a little fun.
