William P. “Bill” Gaskin, 93, of Montgomery, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg. Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Martha B. (Brower) Gaskin.
Born February 16, 1931, in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Lindsay S. Gaskin, Sr. and Florence (Miller) Gaskin.
After graduating from high school, Bill answered the call of duty and served in the Army National Guard during the Korean War. He rose to the rank of Master Sergeant in the 29th Division of the Maryland National Guard. Following his military service, he continued to protect and serve as a police officer for the Baltimore City Police Department for 11 years, retiring in 1969. His dedication to public safety extended to his role as a security officer at the former Williamsport Area Community College for a decade and as the former deputy director of the Williamsport Civil Defense.
Bill was a proud member of Lodge #3 Fraternal Order of Police in Baltimore and the American Legion Post #104, Montoursville. His civic engagement also included serving on the planning commission of Brady Township, where he contributed to the betterment of his local area.
One of Bill’s most notable contributions was the plastic model display he meticulously put together at the Endless Mountain War Memorial Museum, in Sonestown. This display was a testament to his love for military history and his skillful hands. Bill was an avid reader, enjoyed taking long walks, fishing, and had a special place in his heart for pets, especially dogs. His talent for making plastic models, mainly of a military theme, was admired by all who had the pleasure of viewing his creations. Bill also enjoyed traveling especially to Nova Scotia, Canada, and Disney. Most of all Bill loved and cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Barbara G. Ryan (Cyrus) of Muncy and Stephanie J. Gaskin-Hoffman (Adam) of Cogan Station; five grandchildren Michael (Martina), Ashley, Andrew (Heather), Nichole (Dalton), and Kaitlin (Cody); and nine great-grandchildren with one on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 siblings.
In keeping with his wishes, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
