Thomas M. Vogel, 67

Thomas M. Vogel, affectionately known as Tom, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at the age of 67.

Born on October 1, 1956, in Florida, he was a son of the late Larry Vogel and Sallie (Williams) Schelb. He was a proud graduate of Williamsport Area High School, Class of 1974, and a dedicated member of St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church throughout his life.

Tom’s passion for nature and the great outdoors was evident to all who knew him. In 1981, he channeled that passion by founding and operating Thomas’s Greenhouse until his retirement in 2007. His love for nurturing plants and helping them grow was paralleled only by his dedication to nurturing relationships and helping his community thrive.

An avid Penn State fan, Tom rarely missed a game and could often be found cheering on his favorite team, surrounded by friends and family. Tom also enjoyed playing Pennsylvania Skills with a strategic mindset. His adventurous soul found joy in the simple pleasures of hunting and fishing, and exploring the snowy landscapes by snowmobile.

Surviving are his loving wife of 42 years, Melanie (Winters) Vogel; step-father LaRue M. Schelb; step-mother, Nona Vogel; two brothers, Steven R. Vogel and Timothy Schelb; a sister, Laurie Stavitzski (Eugene); two step-sisters, Donna and Debbie; fifteen nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and great-nephews.

Tom was also preceded in death by a sister, Debra Silverstrim and sister-in-law, Beth (Ludwig) Vogel.

Funeral services to honor the life of Tom will be held 12 p.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport. A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. Paul-Calvary United Methodist Church, 1427 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, PA, 17701.
