Stuart Coleman (Stu) Wolfe, 63

Stuart Coleman (Stu) Wolfe, 63, died peacefully at his home on April 7, 2025. Born on March 9, 1962 in Richmond, Calif, he was the son of Jack and Edith (Bystol) Wolfe. He married the former Mary Megan Ritter on August 29, 1987, and they celebrated over 37 years together.

Stuart moved to Hughesville in 1972, from Sanford, Fla. A 1980 graduate of Hughesville High School, he graduated from Penn State University of Altoona and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology from Lock Haven University. He was employed by the former Hammermill Paper Company and then as the Purchasing Officer for Benton Foundry for over 30 years before retiring last November.

In Georgia, Stuart began his journey towards building skills and self-confidence when he joined the American Indian Scouting Association with his father. Once he moved to Hughesville, Stuart joined Cub Scout Pack 80 and then Boy Scout Troop 26, earning his Eagle Scout Award. Throughout his life, he played basketball, baseball and football and coached T-ball and soccer. Going back to his scouting roots, he became Scout Leader of Troop 26 in Hughesville for many years, helping to guide young men to become responsible, caring individuals with moral values. During this time, he aided in guiding scouts hiking the Loyalsock Trail and part of the Appalachian Trail in Maine, plus enjoying many camping outings. He was awarded the Lamb Award for service to scouting and community. After retiring as Troop Leader, he became Committee Chairman for Troop 26. Stuart was also a member of the Wolf Township Planning Commission, and was on the board of the Hughesville Area Public Library. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hughesville, he was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the church council. An avid sports fan, he could always be found cheering for Penn State, the Steelers, and the Phillies, attending many of their games over the years. In addition, Stuart enjoyed many family get togethers, plus playing cards and vacationing with long-time friends.

In addition to his wife, Stuart is survived by a son, Coleman R. Wolfe of Romeoville, IL, a sister, Pamela (Mike) Carpenter of Richmond, VA, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. James and Mary Ritter of Watsontown and nieces, Jennifer Heyman (Josh), Jessie Ritter-Harger (Brent) and Jamie Ritter (Chad) and great-nieces and nephew, Elise Garverick, and Avery and Jordan Ritter Harger, plus, beloved cousins David and Nancy (Walters) Voneida of Florida and the Albertson family of Sullivan County.

Funeral arrangements are being taken care of by McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville. A viewing will take place on Friday, April 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 557 E. Water Street, Hughesville, as well as on Saturday, April 12 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 120 S Main Street, Hughesville, with the service immediately following. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions in his memory can be made to Boy Scout Troop 26 or Trinity Lutheran Church.
