“Stewart” Alexander Rice, 84, of Jersey Shore, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was married on May 1, 1955 to Alberta (Hersh) Rice, who passed away April 1, 2016; they had celebrated 60 years as husband and wife.

Stewart was born on December 4, 1933 in Linden; he was the son of the late Howard “Roy” L. and Glennie (Stewart) Rice and attended the Mountain View Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Jersey Shore. He was an auto mechanic and was employed by the Jersey Shore School District in the maintenance department. Stewart was a member of the Crest Motor Club; his hobby and passion was repairing and maintaining cars and motorcycles.

He is survived by one son; Howard F. Rice (Cheryl A.) of Jersey Shore, one daughter; Jean M. Rice (Constance A.) of S. Williamsport, two grandchildren; Brian F. Rice and Angela M. Rice, four great-grandchildren; JoRay A. Griffiths, Corbin F. Rice, Isaac B. Rice and Jasmine M. Rice, Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers, Carl and Raymond.

There will be a public viewing 9 – 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, Ltd., 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore where the funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Robert Parish will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Woodward Township Cemetery.
