Stella M. Shaffer, 95

Stella M. Shaffer, 95, of Duboistown, died Thursday, June 27, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Stewart A. “Pud” Shaffer.

Born March 22, 1929, in South Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Mary E. (Nunneville) Swinehart.

In her younger years, Stella worked at the Pajama Factory and Sylvania. She attended Pine Creek Valley Christian Church, and enjoyed puzzles and crocheting. Stella loved traveling, especially to Branson, MO, and listening to country music. Her greatest joy in life was raising her children and being with her family.

Surviving are her children Joyce S. Wagner (David), of Linden, Carol A. Homler (John), of Jersey Shore, Mary E. Lehnig, of South Williamsport, Stella M. Bower (Paul), Duboistown, Donald E. Shaffer (Tobi), of Washington, and Gale I. Grove (Bret), of Cogan Station; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters Sarah Howlett of Williamsport and Huldah King of Williamsport; and two daughter-in-law’s, Brenda Shaffer, of Pennsdale, and Debra Shaffer, of South Williamsport.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons Charles S. Shaffer in July of 2015, and Paul E. Shaffer in 2011; three grandchildren, Dalton Grove, Melinda Bower, and Paul Lehnig; four brothers Charles, William, George, and John Swinehart; and four sisters Helen Shipman, Ester Thomas, Florence King, and Joan Collins.

A funeral service to honor the life of Stella will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 1 at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport with Pastor Ronald D. Savits officiating. Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Park, Montgomery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service at Knight-Confer Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Stella’s name to Susquehanna Health Foundation c/o Home Health Care and Hospice, 1001 Grampian Boulevard, Williamsport, PA 17701.
