Sharon W. Wertz, 81, of Hughesville, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2024, peacefully with her family by her side at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born August 17, 1943 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Sara “Betty” (Armstrong) Welborn. On January 21, 1966 she married Rodney E. Wertz, and they celebrated 48 years of marriage until his passing in 2014.

Sharon was a 1961 graduate of Hughesville High School. She spent most of her life working at local banks, and later worked over 10 years at TJ’s Market, Hughesville.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Hughesville.

Sharon cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren above all else.

She is survived by a son, R. David Wertz and his wife Carley; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Fitzwater; and daughter-in-law, Lisa L. Wertz, all of Hughesville; ten grandchildren, Caleb (Christina) Wertz, Jaden Wertz, Sarah (Nicholas) Malone, Gavin Wertz, Cassius Wertz, Harper Wertz, Michael Wertz, Lennon Wertz, and Emily and Rachel Baxter; three great-grandchildren, Seleah Wertz, Eligah Hughes, and Teyla Hughes; and a sister, Nancy McCartney and her companion David “Treetop” Treehorn, Mechanicsburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sharon was preceded in death by a son, Eric W. Wertz.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 3:00-4:00PM on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Hughesville Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 5069 Route 220 Highway, Hughesville where a memorial service will begin at 4:00PM with her grandson, Caleb A. Wertz, officiating. Burial will be held privately at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville.
