Sarah J. (Grimes) Gray, 78

Sarah J. (Grimes) Gray, 78, of Picture Rocks, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, surrounded by her family. Surviving is her loving and devoted husband, Robert Lewis Gray II with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on May 1.

Born January 11, 1946, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Frances P. Grimes Sr. and Sarah (Ohiler) Keen.

Sarah was a 1963 graduate of the Williamsport Area High School. She furthered her education at the former Williamsport Area Community College, where she earned an associate degree in culinary arts. Her passion for cooking and baking led her to a fulfilling career as a chef and baker at the Eagles Mere Country Club. Sarah served her country proudly in the U.S. Army before she was honorably discharged.

Sarah was a faithful Christian, enjoyed reading her Bible, and was a member of the former Memorial Baptist Church. Sarahás interests and hobbies painted a picture of a woman who embraced life with open arms. She was a devoted mother who was actively involved in her childrenás lives, helping with Pop Warner football and serving as a cheerleading advisor. Her dedication to her family was evident in every aspect of her life, and she was often described as a good housewife, taking pride in creating a warm and welcoming home.

Sarah found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as gardening, reading a good book, crocheting, and going for drives with the music turned up loud. She enjoyed traveling to new places, with the beach being one of her favorite destinations.

Surviving in addition to her husband are five children William L. Welch Jr. of Hughesville, Lillian C. Seitz (Brian) of Muncy, Eric L. Welch (Melissa) of Hughesville, Stacey S. Temple (Dana) of Muncy, Shannon L. Welch (Hannah) of Williamsport; nine grandsons; three great-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two brothers, Russell A. Grimes of Hawaii and Francis P. Grimes Jr. of Hughesville; two half-brothers; one half-sister; and her beloved chihuahuas, Hondo and Gabby.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Benerval L. Grimes; three sisters Iva V. Koch, June M. Wertman, and Lillian C. Keen; and one half-sister.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
