Sara Ann (Sally) Fourney, nee Hugar, 90

Sara Ann (Sally) Fourney, nee Hugar, of Williamsport, passed away Wednesday, November 27th, 2024, at the age of 90. Sally is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, John F. Fourney also of Williamsport. She was born February 11, 1934, to the late Alfred N. Hugar and Sara (Bubb) Hugar. Sally was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School, class of 1952, and began working shortly after graduation. John and Sally were married in May 1954. In 1968, Sally and John moved the family to Willingboro, NJ, where Sally became active in the Altar and Rosary Society at Corpus Christi parish. During the early 1970s, Sally enrolled in community college and achieved an associate’s degree in bookkeeping. From there, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service and finished her government career with the Federal Public Defender’s office in Camden, NJ. Sally retired in 2000 and moved to Muncy Valley.

Sally has seven children and 11 grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews that loved to visit her home. In addition to her parents, Sally is predeceased by her sisters, Theresa (Timmie) McGill, Riverside; Mary Eileen Soma, Hawley; and her brother, Nicholas Hugar, Mont Clare, WV. Surviving Sally is a sister, Andrea Roy, Rio Vista, CA; and a brother, James (Jay) Hugar, Pasadena, CA.

Sally is survived by her seven children, John, in Palm Beach, FL; Mary, formerly of Williamsport, in Edenton, NC; Francis, at her home in Muncy Valley; James, in Roper, NC; Patrick (Kim) in Norwell, MA; Daniel (Melanie) in Cherry Hill, NJ; and Julia (Peter) in Delran, NJ.

She enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, outdoor activities, and guests. After retirement, Sally travelled the world and enjoyed time with her family. She will always be known as Grammy, Grandma, Aunt Sally, and Mom. She was a fine lady, and certainly will be missed.

The family would like to express gratitude to the staff of Celebration Villa of Loyalsock, and UPMC Family Hospice for their warm, professional care during our Mother’s transition.

At the request of Sally, there will be no viewing or funeral service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
