Ronald L. Hess, 84

Ronald L. Hess, 84, of Montoursville, went to be with the Lord on September 26, 2022, at home, unexpectedly, and with his wife by his side. He was born at home October 15, 1937 in Laporte, a son of the late Robert and Eathel (Young) Hess.

Ron graduated from Sonestown High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was immensely proud of his service to his country. He was a member of Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104 and Williamsport Loyal Order of Moose 145.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he volunteered, served on numerous committees, and was a leader in its Boy Scout Troop 21. Ron loved giving back to the community as one of Montoursville’s Volunteers of Indian Park, known as the VIP group.

Ron was more than a handyman; he was a carpenter who helped build many homes in the Montoursville Area and was recently honored for 50 years of service in the Carpenter’s Local Union 445. He traveled the East Coast installing laboratories in hospitals, schools and colleges for Kewaunee Scientific Corporation. After retirement, Ron continued working, repairing and restoring furniture for Aquarius Pool & Patio.
Ron enjoyed many activities including square dancing with the Grand Squares and camping in their RV with the Susquehanna Drifters where he served as Wagon Master for several years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hess.

Ron is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Long); children Lisa (David) Ott, Michelle (Richard) Boyles, Stanley Hess, David (Jane) Long, and Laurie (Rex) Minium; grandchildren Jennifer, Samantha, Hannah, Annalise, Alex, Rachael, Sarah, and Alyssa; 10 great-grandchildren; former wife Constance (Moyer); aunts, and several nieces and nephews. Ron will also be missed by his dog Casey, his “best fur-baby ever.”
Private services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 700 Fairview Drive, Montoursville, PA 17754, or Community Baptist Church Missions Fund, 1853 State Route 87, Montoursville, PA 17754.

Arrangements are being handled by Spitler Funeral Home, Montoursville.
