Robert S. Stere, Jr., 80

Robert S. Stere, Jr., 80, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Williamsport Home. Born in Bloomsburg on August 14, 1944, he was the son of Robert S. Stere, Sr. and Joyce Stere.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Robert proudly served his country in the U.S. Army after high school. Following his military service, he worked as a Communications Specialist for the Department of Defense in Turkey. Upon returning to the U.S., he joined the United States Postal Service, where he built a distinguished career and retired after 32 years as Supervisor of Mails.

Fate led Robert to his beloved wife, Gloria G. Stere, in a unique and charming way-he was the postman for her sewing store. The two married in 1988 and spent 36 wonderful years together, not only as devoted partners in life but also as a dynamic team running Stere Sewing Machine Center in Montoursville.

Robert had a deep love for animals, especially dogs. Over the years, he and Gloria rescued and cared for many pets, giving them a loving home. His faithful companion, Finn, a ten-year-old cockapoo, was by his side on his final day, a touching testament to their unbreakable bond.

He is survived by his stepsons, Jim C. Pyle and Daniel E. Pyle; step-granddaughters Madison and Victoria Pyle; sister Sonya M. Benza; and nephews Dustin, Cameron, and Aaron Benza and Duane and Jeff Stere.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Gloria G. Stere on February 4, 2025, and his younger brother James Stere.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, February 25, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Bishop Council Nedd II officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
