Robert Richard “Bob” Wertz, 74, a resident of Montgomery, formerly of Middleburg, PA, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, October 25, 2020. Born Thursday, September 5, 1946 at Montgomery, Lycoming Co., PA he was a son of the late Harry S. and Josephine L. (Embick) Wertz. Bob and his wife Judi (Steward) Wertz celebrated 52 years of marriage on April 22, 2020.
He honorably served his country with the U.S. Army in France and Germany during the Viet Nam War. He was a retired self-employed residential and commercial contractor.
Bob was an avid softball player, having played in both the Montgomery and Middleburg Softball Leagues. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and fishing. Bob was a devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Atlanta Braves. He volunteered as the on call repairman for the Montgomery Area Public Library.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven siblings, Patricia Wertz; Bonnie Beamer; Rodney Wertz; Pamela Bradley; Jeffery Brown; Terry Brown and Brenda Flexer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary Wertz and Randy Brown.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, October 31, 2020 at 10:00 A.M. from the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, 43 West Houston Avenue, Montgomery with Pastor Larry Stout, his brother-in-law, officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the joint vetetans organizations.
