Robert L. Compton, 95, of Loyalsock Township, died Friday, September 22, 2023 at The Gatehouse. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie A. Compton, in 2014.

Born March 24, 1928 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Raymond and Sara (Hain) Compton.

Robert was a graduate of Williamsport High School, and a 1952 graduate of Lycoming College.

He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force.

Robert retired from the U.S. Postal Service as superintendent after 31 years. During his time there, he helped oversee the completion the Post Office on Reach Road.

He was a member of Pine Street UMC.

Robert enjoyed spending his time going on walks and reading books.

Surviving are his children, Julie Shepherd (Robert) of Millersville, and Robert Compton, Jr. (Faith) of Richfield; and a grandson, Andrew Shepherd (Virginia) of North Whales, PA.

In addition to his wife and parents, Robert was preceded in death by his four siblings Raymond, Jr., John, and Ira Compton, and Sara Shaw (Robert); and a granddaughter, Jennifer Shepherd.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Wildwood Cemetery with Rev. James B. Wooster, Jr., officiating.
