Robert “Bob” W. Morehart, Sr., 72, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at UPMC Williamsport after an extended illness due to multiple health issues. Bob was born February 25, 1951, in Williamsport. He was the son of the late Lynwood and Matilda “Tillie” (Lynch) Morehart.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice (Nevel) Morehart, of 37 years, sister Linda Morehart of Allenwood, daughter Jodie Willits (Rich) of Cumming, GA, and son Robert “Rob” Morehart, Jr. (Sapna) of Smyrna, GA. He was a loving stepfather to Jesse Smith (Brandi) of Duboistown, PA and Kristen Moise of Steelton, PA; his dearest grandchildren Madison Willits, Delaney Willits, Vir Morehart, Emma Smith, Kendall Smith, Yamella Moise, and Ulysses Moise. He was also uncle to 3 nieces, great uncle to 3 great nieces and 1 great nephew.
He was preceded in death by his older sister Sharon Williams (Kenneth) as well as his younger sister Sally Pauling (Jerry).
Bob graduated from Montgomery Area High School in 1968 and attended Williamsport Area Community College from 1968-1970. He had a diverse career in retail, managing Handy Market in Williamsport, working at Don Waltman’s Meat Market, owning Morehart’s Country Stores in Elimsport, and retiring after 33 years with Barr’s Hardware.
He was an active member of Community Baptist Church in Montoursville for 40 years – he served in the sound booth for 25 years and as a member of the building committee and he was also a member of the South Williamsport Lion’s Club for many years. Bob was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles as well as Penn State Football. Throughout his life, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, crossword puzzles, keeping up with local high school sports, and cooking for others. However, above all, spending time with his family and friends was his favorite thing to do. He had a significant impact on everyone that crossed his path, and his big, boundless heart touched many people in his community. Bob was jovial and full of wonderful stories which made for a life well lived. He is greatly loved and will be profoundly missed.
Services will be held 12 p.m. Thursday, February 29, at Community Baptist Church, 1853 PA-87, Montoursville, with Pastor Greg Sanford officiating. Friends may call from 10-12 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial will follow at Elimsport Cemetery, Gap Rd., Elimspsort.
