Richard C. Winter, 86

Richard C. Winter, 86, of Linden, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at the Williamsport Home. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Janice M. (Shafer) O’Dell-Winter, whom he married on April 26, 1986.

Born August 4, 1939, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Clair O. and Catherine E. (Smith) Winter.

Richard was a 1958 graduate of Williamsport Area High School and went on to become a proud United States Army Veteran. He worked for over 36 years for the United States Postal Service as an office clerk.

In his free time, Richard loved to cut his grass, finding satisfaction in the rhythm of the work. He happily cut grass at the Little League fields as well as other ball fields in the area. He was an avid bowler, and was talented enough to score six 300-point games in his bowling career.

Richard will be remembered as a wonderful father who will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Beth E. Maggs (Christopher), of Loyalsock; a step-daughter, Beth A. Taggart, of NJ; six step-grandchildren, Donovan, Libby, Connor, Zoey, Sydney, and Enin; two step-great-grandchildren, Elowyn and Lorelei; a brother, Thomas (Linda) Winter, of Loyalsock; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members; as well as his beloved dog, Cooper.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters, Kimberly D. and Holly A. Winter; a step-son, Michael O’Dell; and a brother, James E. Winter.

A memorial service to honor Richard’s life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 18 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport with military honors to follow.  The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Saturday, at Sanders.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Richard’s name to Hunter’s Hope, 21 Princeton Pl #12, Orchard Park, NY 14127.

Richard’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Cindy, Lia, and Denise at the Williamsport Home for their compassionate care and friendship during his time at the home.
