Raymond L. Danneker, 89

Raymond L. Danneker, 89, of Williamsport, died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Wilma R. (Gidcumb) Danneker, on March 22, 2016.

Born August 30, 1929, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Raymond E. and Lydia I. (Bower) Danneker.

Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a 1947 graduate of Williamsport High School and attended W.T.I. Raymond served as a Williamsport City Fireman for 25 years and retired in 1980. He was essential in starting the Pennsylvania Retired Professional Firefighter Association, was president of the Fireman’s Union and the Retired Fireman’s Union. Raymond was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Knights of Columbus and the International Association of Firefighters.

He was enthusiastic about hunting and teaching his children how to hunt for rabbits, pheasants and deer. Raymond loved company, talking to people, and owned the room as he shared stories with friends and family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and family, together they visited 22 different countries and 5 different continents.

Surviving are a son, Raymond W. Danneker (Joyce), of Seven Valleys; three daughters, Janet M. Oliver, of Williamsport, Karen S. Evans (Paul Biblehimer), of Williamsport, and Dorinda L. Danneker, of Williamsport; eight grandchildren, Regina Spiegel (Eric), of Williamsport, Michelle Finn (Shawn), of South Williamsport, Lawrence Evans (Dawn), of DE., Marcus Evans (Amanda), of Williamsport, Eric Danneker (Holly), of NC., Andrew Danneker (Amanda), of MS., Ryan Damaska (Leah), of NC., and Jennifer Barton (Andrew), of CA; and 14 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial to honor Raymond’s life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Burial with Military honors will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St., Williamsport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Raymond’s name to the American Cancer Society, 1948 E 3rd St, Williamsport, PA 17701 or a charity of one’s choice.
