Raymond B. Williams, Jr., 74

Raymond B. Williams, Jr., 74 of Mill Hall, passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 2, 2021 at UPMC Lock Haven Hospital.

Born January 22, 1947 in Williamsport, Ray was the son of the late Raymond B. and Margaret Dewan Williams, Sr.

He was 1965 graduate of Saint Joseph’s High School and obtained a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Safety Education with a minor in Computer Science from Lock Haven University in 1975 and a Master of Education degree in Educational Administration with a minor in Curriculum Supervision from Penn State University in 1981.

A Veteran of the United States Navy with many awards under his belt, Ray served from 1968-1972 being stationed in Japan for 18 months during the Vietnam War, and 9 months in the Mediterranean. He then served in the Naval Reserves from 1976 until his retirement in 1994.

December 24, 1970 in Tokyo, Japan at the American Embassy, the Thai Embassy, and the Catholic Church, Ray married the love of his life three times that day, the former Wongduan Chaboonmee, who survives.

Ray enjoyed a distinguished career as an educator and administrator. He taught Math, Data Processing, and Keypunch at Centre County Vo-Tech from 1976-1983. In 1984-1985 he taught Math at Hughesville, and Bald Eagle Area High Schools. He taught Math at Lock Haven Jr. High School from 1985-1987. Ray became Assistant Principal of Lock Haven High School in 1987 where he would eventually become Principal, involved with the Heart Academy, and helped lead the way during the consolidation and founding of Central Mountain High School from where he would retire.

He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, attending Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he would often Lector at Sunday masses. He was Cub Scout Master for Pack 61 for 4 years, and Scoutmaster for 5 years or Troop 30. He was Assistant Manager of Mill Hall Youth Baseball for 2 years, as well as 1 year as Vice President and 1 year as President. In 1986 he was Basketball Coach for B.E.N. Junior High. Ray was also a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.

Ray enjoyed doling out his unique sense of humor both to those closest to him and to the general public at large. He also enjoyed gardening with his wife, hunting, fishing, spending time with family, and spending time at the family farm in Linden.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Steven E. Williams of Flemington, Phillip M. Williams of Lock Haven, and Jessica L. Williams of Williamsport, and his grandchildren Hannah Williams, Alexander Williams, Logan Williams, Brady Williams, and Kassandra Williams.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his granddaughter Mina Williams.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 12 P.M. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 310 W. Water Street, Lock Haven, PA with Deacon Philip Gibson officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville.

Friends and family will be received for a time of viewing on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 P.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745.

Memorial contributions for Ray may be made through the funeral home to the Lock Haven Catholic School.
