Patricia “Patty” Marie Rooney, of Jersey Shore, a devoted sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on August 14, 1946, in Renovo, PA, Patty brought love and warmth to every life she touched.
The daughter of the late Harry E. and Marie A. (Wolf) Kane, Patty graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Renovo, PA, in June 1964. She married on June 13, 1964, to the late Michael T. Rooney Sr., beginning a life focused on family.
Patty raised her four children in Cross Fork, PA, before moving to Jersey Shore in the 1990s. She later worked as a CNA, where her care and kindness had a lasting impact on residents and coworkers alike. Her selflessness, compassion, and dedication to helping others were a true testament to her character.
Patty found joy in life’s simple pleasures, always making time for the people and activities that mattered most to her. If you were lucky, you got some handwritten notes or poems from her. Hand-made cards, Christmas logs, themed wreaths. You know she put love, thought, and time into her crafts.
She enjoyed scenic car rides with her daughter Missy, making beautiful crafts and exploring the Rails to Trails with her daughter Joanna. Patty loved the trout and the best cuts of venison her son-in-law Mike would bring her, sharing in his appreciation for the outdoors and great food. She cherished visiting her daughter Andrea at her campsites, finding peace in those special moments together.
Patty had a knack for spoiling her family in the sweetest ways. She was always happy to make chocolate chip pancakes for her grandson Chais, who was always there to help her figure out the latest tech gadgets. She enjoyed going up the Pine Creek with her granddaughter Courtney (Nick) Reeves, where they would have lunch and read by the water. She shared an interest in photography with her granddaughter Michelle (Tyler) Stark, swapping stories and pictures, and loved picking out special treats for Tyler to bake for her. Food was a love language in Patty’s life. Enjoying good meals created countless happy memories with those she loved.
Patty was also the biggest supporter of her great-grandchildren Haden and Hailie, always there to cheer them on at their soccer games and make her “famous” sandwiches for them.
In the end, Patty had an ongoing battle with multiple illnesses that required her to have home hospice support. These amazing women quickly became family to her with their own love and compassion. Amy, Mary, and Jaima, your care was exactly what she deserved after a lifetime of giving so much of herself to anyone in need.
Patty is preceded in death by her father, Harry E. Kane; mother, Marie A. (Wolf) Kane; niece, Michele M. (Kane) Bauder; husband, Michael T. Rooney, Sr.; and son-in-law, David C. Gharet.
She is survived by her son, Michael T. (Cindy) Rooney, Jr. of Lock Haven, PA; her three daughters, Melissa M. Rooney of Jersey Shore, Joanna L. (Mike) Tesareski of Loganton, PA, and Andrea F. (Rooney) Gharet of Lock Haven, PA; her brother, John “Butch” (Sarah) Kane of Cleveland, NY; her sister, Barbara F. (Edward Balon) Kane of Buffalo, NY; as well as 3 nieces, 4 nephews, 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
