Norma S. Black, 89

Norma S. Black, 89, of Williamsport, passed away with family by her side on Tuesday, June 19 at Valley View Nursing Center. She was reunited with her husband, Walter E. Black, Jr. where she officially got the last word in from his passing in 1999.

Born December 11, 1928 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Henry Schwanbeck and Helen Flook.

Norma was a member of Northway Presbyterian Church and a devoted AT&T telephone operator for over 30 years. She proudly raised two of her grandchildren who were the joy of her life and was a loving, sassy woman who always put her family first. Norma was an avid collector of Ty Beanie Babies and loved lighthouses. She had a huge heart for animals, especially cats. Norma was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and volunteered at the Community Theatre League. She had a passion for the Arts and raised her family with the same influence.

Surviving are two sons; Stephen E. Black (Linda Kern) of West Virginia and Walter E. “Chip” Black, III of Williamsport; six grandchildren; Jennifer S. (Sheila) Black-Jarrett of Williamsport, Charles R. Black and Rachel L. Black both of Muncy, Tara (Zac) Campbell, Kayla (Ryan) Cremeans all of West Virginia and Ryan (Katey) Black of Virginia; four great grandchildren; a brother and a sister.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by an infant son Robert Scott Black and a daughter in law Julia M. Black.

A funeral service to honor the life of Norma will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday June 22 at Sanders.
