Maurice Gateley, 79

Maurice Gateley, 79. Born in Manchester England April 5, 1945, and resident of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife Lois and his two adoring dogs Duke and Heidi.

Maurice is survived by his wife Lois (Foulkrod) Gateley, of South Williamsport; sister, Debra Chaves Norwood of Decaturville, TN; stepbrother, Milton Chaves of TX. As a member of an international blended extended family, he is also survived by stepbrothers Eduardo Moncada, and Jorge Chaves.

Maurice is predeceased by his mother, Antoinette Ripepi Chaves formerly of Caracas, Venezuela, and stepsister, Rosalba Chaves.

Maurice loved his family, dogs, Corvettes, hunting, trap shooting and pinball machines, (both repairing and playing). He was especially known as a fond mentor to all his nieces and nephews who adored him. Robert Gillen, David Gillen, Stephanie Aikey Bandza, Samuel Aikey, Benjamin Aikey, Philip Aikey of Pennsylvania and Daniel Norwood, Carlton Norwood, Caroline Norwood and David Norwood of Tennessee.

As an international student Maurice was fluent in English and Spanish and attended Colegio International de Caracas, Venezuela and was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy. He attended University of Miami and graduated as a computer engineer from Control Data Institute.

He was a genius in mechanical engineering, known as a fixer of all things mechanical and electrical. As an avid dog lover, Maurice and his wife Lois generously helped rescue many Newfoundlands throughout the years.

Graveside Service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, September 20, at Barbours Cemetery, Barbours Cemetery Road Williamsport, with Pastor Martin Coffey officiating.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty Thomas Funeral Home of Montoursville.
