Mary Helen Greene, 88

Mary Helen Greene, 88, of Jersey Shore, PA passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of Sunday, February 1, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

She was born January 10, 1938, to the late Fred and Lois (Mills) Chapman and grew up in Rauchtown, PA.

Mary graduated in 1956 from Jersey Shore Area High School and attended Empire Beauty School. She worked at the former GTE Sylvania Plant in Montoursville before opening her own beauty shop. Mary had also served on the Jersey Shore Borough Planning Commission.

Mary was an animal lover, rescuing and rehabilitating hundreds of animals throughout her life. In addition to numerous dogs and cats, she had a rooster, a raccoon, a skunk, several squirrels, bunnies, and many, many birds.

If you knew Mary Helen, you knew she had the BEST sense of humor! She often wore a fake witch’s nose when out at a restaurant or visiting a new doctor and laughed hysterically at everyone’s reactions. She also used an extendable fork to “steal” a sample from someone else’s dinner plate. Mary was also very artistic and drew realistic sketches of family in funny situations.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brother Rex; two husbands, Fred Smith and Larry Greene, Sr.; son Lorne “Doon” Greene; stepchildren Connie Cataldo and Gordy Greene; and her best friend Beverly Greene.

Mary is survived by her devoted son Kevin (Wendy) Smith, and only grandchild Brock Smith. Also surviving are her stepfather Dorland Eck and his wife Carlene; stepchildren Bonnie Herold and Larry Greene, Jr., his wife “the other” Mary; their families, and special “other son” Barry Kellerman.

Internment and a memorial service will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions can be made to Good Samaritan Wildlife Center, 304 S. Pine Run Road, Linden, PA 17744. Call Amie at (570) 447-2785 or visit goodsamaritanwildlife.com for information.

The family would like to thank the team at Gentiva Hospice Care for their care they provided to Mary.

Arrangements are being handled by Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny St., Jersey Shore.
