Martin E. “Marty” Gatz, 63, of Hughesville, died Friday, August 16, 2024, at his home.

Born July 2, 1961, in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Jacob and Harriet (Keiser) Gatz.

Marty was a man of strong faith and conservative values who loved his country greatly. He currently attended Pleasant View Wesleyan Church, Muncy, and was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Marty and his wife Barb were caretakers at the Hughesville Camp Meeting for over 17 years, a position they both truly enjoyed. He was previously employed at Montour Oil Company, Montoursville, before opening his own construction business, J. William Gatz & Son, over 18 years ago. In his free time Marty enjoyed working on cars and could fix nearly anything.

Surviving is his wife of 36 years, Barbara A. (Black) Gatz; two sons, Tyler Gatz, and Sammuel (Ashlee Greenway) Gatz, both of Hughesville; a daughter, Tonya (Timothy) Nelson of Hughesville; a brother, Bill (Shawn) Gatz Jr. of Montgomery, Pa.; two sisters, Kathryn (Paul) Booth of Eagles Mere, and Yvonne Shenuski of Loyalsock; and 12 grandchildren, Alexis Ritter, Olivia Brown, Alaina Brown, Tyson Gatz, Harper Gatz, Timothy Nelson Jr., Oceania Allen, Levi Nelson, Liam Nelson, Jayce Merrifield, Luna Gatz, and Brynleigh Gatz.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St. Hughesville, with Rev. Christine Mitcheltree officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
