Marcella J. “Marty” Galligher, 90

Marcella J. “Marty” Galligher, 90, a resident of Hughesville, formerly of Montgomery, passed away very peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 in the Gatehouse at Williamsport. Born Wednesday, October 22, 1930 in Welliverville, Columbia Co., PA, she was a daughter of the late Horace and Maude (Johnson) Welliver. Marcella was the widow of Donald C. Galligher who preceded her in death on September 4, 1985.

She was a 1948 graduate of West Chillisquaque High School. Marcella retired in 1993 from Trimtex at Williamsport where she was employed as a weaver.

She was a member of Friends Church at Hughesville where she was a former Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, youth leader and led a Bible study.

Marcella delivered meal on wheels for over 13 years. She was an avid collector of clowns and enjoyed reading her Bible, playing music, writing poetry, keeping a daily journal and playing cards, especially manipulation, a form of rummy. She was involved in and very proud of a card ministry with her friends.

She is survived by three children, Ronald W. “Red” (Linda Kiessling) Sampsell, Sr. of Elimsport; Craig A. (Shirley) Galligher of Williamsport and Denise R. (Frank) Shoemaker of Unityville. Marcella is also survived by one sister, Mary Lemon of Calexico, CA; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Gary Allen Sampsell; Arlan David Sampsell; three sisters, Audrey King; Loraine Huff; Betty Campbell; one half sister Nettie Meckley and one half brother, Edward Dudash.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. from the Friends Church Hughesville, 137 S. Third Street, Hughesville, PA 17737 with Dan Cale, her pastor, officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Friends Church.
