Linda M. Avery, 76

Linda M. Avery, age 76, of Williamsport, Pa., passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at The Williamsport Home in Williamsport, Pa. She was born on December 29, 1948, in Williamsport to the late Lawrence E. Starr Jr. and Margaret J. (Fromille) Starr.

Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of many with her kindness, strong work ethic, and unwavering faith. She is survived by her sister, Susan (Larry) Gehr of Trout Run, Pa.; her son, James (Amanda) Harvey of Unityville, Pa.; her daughter, Laura (Joshua) Berwanger of Montoursville, Pa.; and her beloved grandchildren, Faith and Christian Berwanger, and Nicholas Harvey.

A 1966 graduate of Montoursville Area High School, Linda built a professional career in the local hospitality industry. She served as Catering Manager at The Genetti Hotel, then as Manager of The Hillside Restaurant, and later as Manager of The Ross Club, where she eventually retired after many years of dedicated service.

Throughout her life, Linda remained deeply committed to her faith. She served alongside her family at Emmanuel Baptist Church for several years. After retiring, she worked with the American Rescue Workers while being an active member of Faith United Methodist Church in Montoursville. In later years, she found a spiritual home at Pleasant View Wesleyan Church in Muncy, where she worshiped faithfully with her dear friend, Wilma Robson, who also recently passed.

Linda was known for her warmth, joyful spirit, and love of spending time with those she held dear. She especially loved entertaining and cooking for her family and friends and could always be heard singing in the kitchen. Linda also enjoyed reading, thrifting, playing cards, and making memories with her grandchildren. She was an amazing Grammy who doted on them endlessly and never missed a chance to spoil them. Her presence brought comfort, and her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Linda was predeceased by many dear friends and extended family members. She leaves behind countless loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.

A service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held at a later date and time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Montoursville.
