Lear A. Slotterback, 82, of Cogan Station passed away at home on Tuesday July 2nd, 2024, with his family by his side. He was married to Barbara (Kendter) Slotterback for over 60 years. Lear was born on January 22, 1942, at Shamokin Hospital and grew up in Mt. Carmel PA. He was the son of Merle R. Slotterback and Caroline Rebecca (Hornberger) Slotterback.
Lear and Barbara lived in Frenchtown, NJ for 42 years and raised a son and daughter there. When Lear retired from Opdyke Lumber Co. in Frenchtown, they moved to the Williamsport area. He previously worked for Storr Tractor Co. in Somerville, NJ. While in Williamsport he worked at Little League World Series each summer for 15 years.
Lear did volunteer work at Susquehanna Regional EMS in Williamsport and loved being a volunteer patient at their drills. He was a lifetime member of the Frenchtown Union Fire Co. and Rescue Squad and was Captain of the Rescue Squad for 10 years. He loved traveling, the beach, and taking the grandkids on vacation each summer. Lear enjoyed working with wood and making furniture from a black walnut tree that fell down on their property. He loved music and dancing and was a DJ at St. Stephen’s dances in Mt. Carmel as a teenager.
Lear had a great sense of humor and always laughed about how he was almost Mayor of Frenchtown. Lear was a caring devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply.
Lear is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Carole Sue (Michael Oakes), son James (Jenni), grandson Jeremiah, granddaughter Rebecca and step grandson James Rowe.
Lear was predeceased by all of his siblings Bill, Merle, Nancy Mills, Jane Poplaski, June Shutt, and Donna Owens.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Family requests that in place of flowers donations be made in Lear’s memory to Susquehanna Regional EMS via the Susquehanna Foundation in Williamsport. (www.susquehannahealthfoundation.org)
