Lawrence F. Bassett, of Williamsport, PA, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the age of 79. He was the devoted husband of Karen Choate Bassett for 27 years.
Larry taught English at Williamsport Area High School for 35 years before his retirement in 2002 and was honored as Teacher of the Year for the 1994–1995 school year. For more than 25 years, he was proudly known as the “Voice of the Millionaires,” serving as announcer for major Williamsport Area High School sporting events, where his distinctive baritone became a beloved hallmark of school spirit.
A passionate lover of literature, Larry was an avid reader, writer, poet, and editor. He took great pride in producing the award-winning Cherry and White literary magazine at Williamsport Area High School and was the published author of the novel Majorie as well as numerous works of poetry. In his spare time, he enjoyed cross-country skiing, bicycling, and traveling.
In addition to his wife, Larry is survived by his sisters Ann Feger (Bruce) and Jackie Schaibley (John); his children Wolfe Patchen Bassett (Leslie) and Megan Wells Richards (Eli); and three grandchildren, Audrey Bassett Walsh (Jonathan), Molly Richards, and Piper Richards. He will also be deeply missed by many nieces and nephews, countless former students whose lives he enriched, and his cherished dog, Dougal, and cat, Murphy.
He was preceded in death by his sister Gail McGlinn (Gerald) and his parents, Marystell (née Fryling) and Clifford Bassett.
