Kathryn E. Metz, 98

Kathryn E. Metz, 98, of Williamsport, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning of February 2, 2025.

She was born in Montgomery on June 24, 1926, the only child to the late Edgar and Geraldine (Hartranft) Wertman.

Kathryn graduated from Williamsport High School in 1944. She met her husband, Carl, shortly thereafter and they were married on September 6, 1947. They moved to a house in Linden, where Kathryn continued to live until 2020. Kathryn and Carl were faithful members of Memorial Baptist Church for many years, where they assisted in the high school youth program for 15 years and Kathryn taught Sunday school for 30 years. They were both prayerful supporters of Memorial Baptist Christian School, which was founded by the church in 1984.

Kathryn worked as an apprentice engineer for Textron for the better part of 34 years before her retirement in 1982. She also loved gardening and sewing. For many years, her friends gathered regularly as “the sewing club,” a luncheon tradition which continued long after most had stopped sewing.

Her beloved husband of 35 years, Carl Metz, preceded her in death in 1981.

Kathryn’s grandchildren then became the light of her life. She enjoyed sewing clothes for them, and made countless dresses and Halloween costumes over the years. Kathryn was thrilled to become a great grandmother in 2017 and delighted in each of her 7 great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Rick (Karen) Metz of Williamsport; grandchildren Kara (Garret) Williams of Gray, Tennessee, and Kelsey (Davis) Swift of Trout Run; as well as great-grandchildren Gavin, Levi, Jayden and Owen Williams, and Evienna, Piper, and Juliet Swift.

In addition to her parents and husband Carl, Kathryn was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Metz who passed away August 24, 2019.

A Life Celebration Service will be held at Buchanan Baptist Church, 3240 Grimesville Rd., Williamsport PA on June 7 at 11:00 am. An interment service for family will be held at Wildwood Cemetery at 10:00 am on the same day.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to Camp Susque, 47 Susque Camp Rd., Trout Run, PA 17771 or online at susque.org.
