John P. “Windy” Smith, 90

John P. “Windy” Smith, 90, of 407 E. Church St., Lock Haven, passed peacefully Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at ManorCare, Williamsport.

He was born March 28, 1928 in Lock Haven to the late Hellen Marguerite Smith.
Windy served in the Korean War and received a Bronze Star.

He worked at Clinton Paper and retired from Lock Haven University where he also served as President of AFSCME.

Windy volunteered for the Lockette’s Drill Team as a music coordinator. After he retired, he enjoyed socializing at the Texas Lunch in Lock Haven and the Second Cup in Dunnstown.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard S. Smith and his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Packer Smith.

He is survived by a son, Wayne K. (Carol) Smith of Lock Haven; a daughter, Diane K. (Pat) Berry of Kennesaw, GA; six grandchildren, Allison (Ryan) Bressler of Howard, Brad (Tiffany) Smith of Zion, Megan (James) Wilson of Marietta, GA, Patricia (David) Bartlett of Dallas, GA, Kristina (Jim) Akeley of Mill Hall, and Aaron Straley of State College; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by cousins, Patricia Hackenberg of Salona and George Yarnell of Lock Haven; and a sister-in-law, Sue Shade of Lock Haven.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa 17745 with Pastor Frank Hartzel officiating. Burial will follow at Dunnstown Cemetery, Lock Haven.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Wounded Warrior’s Project.
