John Irwin Terry, 87

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, surrounded by his family, John Irwin Terry, 87, of Jersey Shore, PA, was welcomed into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior.

On December 29, 1956, he married the former Loretta J. (Lamey), who survives. This December they would have celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Born December 30, 1936, in Ripley, New York, John was the son of the late Rev. Theodore B. and Bernice L. (Tubbs) Terry. While growing up, his Father’s ministries allowed he and his family to touch the lives of others in East Kane, PA, Coalport, PA, Williamsport, PA, and finally Waverly, NY, where he graduated from high school in 1954.

For the bulk of his career, John was a 33 year valued maintenance electrician at Lonza (formerly Glyco Chemical), where he continued his education and garnered several certifications for excellence and safety, retiring in the year 2000.

A founding member, deacon and member of the board, John was very active in the Jersey Shore Assembly of God Church. While not an ordained minister, John loved the Lord, and along with his wife, often shared that love by conducting outreach church services at local jails, prisons, state parks and campgrounds.

In his free time, John enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, trapping, bee keeping, fishing, camping, playing guitar, and drinking vanilla milkshakes.

In addition to his wife Loretta, he is survived by three sons; Ronald D. Terry of Niagara Falls, NY, Timothy J. Terry (Pam Hill) of Greenville and Jonathan P. Terry (Angela) of Jersey Shore, four daughters; Joy M. Gephart of Jersey Shore, Laura J. Weber (George, Jr.) Lock Haven, Ellen L. Farnum of Williamson, NY, and Deborah A. Terry of Jersey Shore, twelve grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four brothers; Harold Terry (Shirley) of Williamsport, James Terry (Mary) of Churchville, NY, Kenneth Terry (Maureen) of Jersey Shore, and Theodore Terry (Marietta) of Highland Village, TX, and one sister; Helen Penman of Ephrata. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother; Carl Terry, one grandson; George H. Weber, III, and one great granddaughter, Savannah L. Terry.

There will be a public viewing 10 – 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at the Jersey Shore Assembly of God Church, 172 Antes Fort Main St., Jersey Shore where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Pastor David Bremigen will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
