John H. Smith, 92

John H. Smith, 92, of Hughesville passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Gatehouse, Williamsport, surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 23, 1929 in Hughesville, he was the son of the late Daniel W. and Maud (Barto) Smith. He married his high school sweetheart, Arlene L. “Sis” Montgomery on March 25, 1950 and they celebrated 68 years of marriage until her death on February 17, 2019.

He was a 1947 graduate of Hughesville High School where he was a member of the 1947 West Branch Basketball Championship team. He served honorably in the US Air Force as a radio operator during the Korean War earning the rank of Staff Sargent.

John retired from the former Sylvania Corp. at Halls Station where he had worked for over 25 years, and had worked at the former Seibert’s Chevrolet of Hughesville.

He enjoyed tinkering around his home and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and provider for his family.

Surviving are a daughter and four sons: Susan (Ken) Lundy of Harrisburg; Dan (Susan) Smith, of Unityville, Steven (Linda) Smith of Altamonte Springs, FL, Robert (Denise) Smith of Hughesville, and Doug (Darl) Smith of Hughesville; 11 grandchildren: Shawn (April) Smith, Julie Smith (Cait Watts), Jason (Julie) Smith, Lindsey (Aerial) Weldy, Ryan Smith, Brent Smith, Ashton (Josh) Hackenberg, Shane Smith, Kyle Weldy, Austin (Kenzie) Smith, and Kyle (Kathryn) Lundy; 10 great-grandchildren: Cooper Smith, Cael Smith, Mavryk Hackenberg, Ellie Smith, Hudson Smith, Cambria Hackenberg, Sawyer Smith, and Malachi, Owen, and Jackson Weldy; and two nieces: Diane Kirstner and Kathy May.

Preceding him in death besides his wife was a sister, Margaret Thompkins.

In honor of his wishes, there will be no services.
