Joanne M. Casale, 85, of Williamsport, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport. Joanne was born in Williamsport on Dec. 24, 1933, and was the daughter of the late Elmer and Angeline Melfi Cervelli.
Joanne was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. For 44 years Joanne worked as a secretary for the Sedgwick Insurance Company and retired in 1998. She enjoyed her monthly card club with friends until progressive health problems and the onset of dementia took that away. For the last year or so she has been homebound except for doctor appointments, her occasional pampering by her beloved Alyssa and the gang at Salon Simon’e followed by lunch at one of her favorite restaurants. She enjoyed these outings but they took a toll on her energy. Her time spent at home would be working on her puzzle for hours, watching the Hallmark channel, having coffee with her friend, Glenda, and socializing in the entryway with the ladies in her apartment building. She also enjoyed her visits and laughs with Krista and the time they spent designing her favorite necklace and buying the accessories to go along with it. Most of her days she spent waiting for Michele to bring her a medium hot chocolate with whipped cream from Dunkin’ and something for lunch. Joanne and Michele formed a special bond over the last few years through friendship, caregiving, hospital and nursing home care, and everyday living. She will be greatly missed, however, we rejoice in knowing that her body is made whole! She is walking…no, she is running! Better yet…she is pain free and in the presence of her Lord and Savior!
She is survived by a niece, nephew, two great nieces and by a very dear friend, Michele Crawford, who was thought of by Joanne as “the daughter she never had”. She is predeceased by a sister, Loretta A. Franzi.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 31, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport, with Rev. John J. Victoria officiating. Interment will follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
