Janet S. “Jan” Denny, 80, of South Williamsport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Valley View Rehab and Nursing Center.

Born December 12, 1942, in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Reuel B. and Margaret A. (Swartz) Shaffer.

Jan was a graduate of Williamsport Area High School in 1960, and furthered her education with some college for banking. This led to a successful career in the banking industry, where she served as a trust officer at the former Northern Central Bank and later retired from M & T Bank in 2006.

Jan was a member of St. Paul Calvary United Methodist Church. She had a great love for the outdoors and enjoyed reading. She was an avid snowmobiler and had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature, particularly flowers. Jan’s adventurous spirit led her to travel extensively. Each year, she looked forward to her annual fishing trips to Canada and visits to Yellowstone National Park. These trips brought her immense joy and created lasting memories. Later in life Jan loved going for drives, getting ice cream, and enjoying the scenery along the way.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law, Helen Shaffer.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her longtime companion, Donald E. Solomon, her brothers Paul and James Shaffer, and her sisters Betty Metzger and Lois Smith.

A graveside service to honor the life of Jan will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, November 2 in Wildwood Cemetery.
