James Rodney Houseknecht, 75

James Rodney Houseknecht, 75, of Muncy, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 24, 2025 at his home.

Born September 20, 1949 in Muncy, he was the son of the late James T. and Hazel L. (Narber) Houseknecht. Rodney married his high school sweetheart, the former Esther A. “Taffy” Egli, on March 18, 1967. Together they celebrated 58 wonderful years together.

Rodney was a graduate of Hughesville High School, Class of 1967, and the Williamsport Hospital School of Respiratory Therapy. He worked at Muncy Valley Hospital for about a year, then the Geisinger Medical Center for 25 years before he retired. In 1997 he opened an Antique Shop in Muncy, which is still open.

Rodney looked forward to the New York Madison/Bouckville Antique Show for a week each year. He enjoyed time spent in his workshop to build, fix, and work on projects. Earlier in life, Rodney loved trips with his family and friends going deep sea fishing at the shore. In later life, he fished locally, including ice fishing during the colder months. He liked to watch the wildlife in the woods around his home. On Sundays, he enjoyed having dinner and spending time with his family. Rodney was a history enthusiast, especially local and Native American history.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Stephanie L. (Jeffrey V.) Rishel; two grandchildren, Shane Anthony and Sarah I. Fiester, of Pennsdale; a brother-in-law, Paul Keebler, of Williamsport; several nieces and nephews; and his 11/2 year old four-legged buddy, Rosiey.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, David (Shirley) Houseknecht and a sister, Patsy Keebler.

The family would like to thank the Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Company for their help and assistance.

In keeping with Rodney’s wishes services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Muncy Area Volunteer Fire Company, 932 E. Penn St., Muncy, PA 17756.
