James H. Winder, 80

James H. Winder, 80, a resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 13, 2020 in the Geisinger Medical Center at Danville. Born Tuesday, February 28, 1939 at Elmira, Chemung Co., NY, he was a son of the late Mahlon and Louise (Clark) Winder. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Gisela (Patz) Winder on January 3, 2018.

He was a 1957 graduate of Montgomery/Clinton High School and furthered his education at Lycoming College. He honorably served his country with the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Jim was employed as a dye lab manager at Warshows in Milton, retiring in 2004.

Jim was a member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church at Montgomery, Bower-Decker American Legion Post 251 at Montgomery where he was a past commander, Muncy Lodge #299 F.& A.M., the Zafar Grotto at South Williamsport, the 40 et 8, the Marine Corps League, the Clinton Volunteer Fire Co. where he served as chief for 15 years, the Montgomery Sports Hall of Fame, the Red Ridge Hunting Club and the Station House’s Old Cronies. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and took up golf when he retired that he could play with his grandson. Jim coached Montgomery Junior High Football and for 20 years was the scout of the Montgomery High School football team.

He is survived by two daughters, Monika Powell and her companion Ken Barner of Watsontown, PA; Gail and husband Terry Warren of Montgomery, PA; one grandson, Brett Powell of Hanover, PA; two sisters, Lois and husband Paul Wertman of Muncy, PA and Elinor Hallabuk of LaPorte, PA. In addition to his wife, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Winder and his sister, Dolly Bastian.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 17, 2020 at 11:00 A.M. from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy with Max Walters, Jr., pastor of the Lairdsville Faith Church officiating. Friends may call on Friday at the funeral home from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. . Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery at Montgomery with full military honors accorded by the joint veterans organizations.
