James G. “Jim” Huggins, 73, of Williamsport passed away, Thursday, February 27, 2020 surrounded by family at his home. Surviving is his loving wife Gail A. (Smeak) Huggins, with whom he celebrated 46 years of marriage with on February 8, 2020.
Born January 15, 1947 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Clyde G. and Miriam M. (Larson) Huggins.
Jim was a 1965 graduate of South Williamsport High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Korea during the Vietnam era. Jim worked for E. Keeler Company, Juvenile probation and was a Lycoming County tax assessor. After his retirement Jim continued to work at Fastenall.
He enjoyed Penn State Football as a season ticket holder, was a lifelong Yankees baseball fan, but mostly THE GLEN held his heart. Jim devoted 50 consecutive years of his life as a sports car racing fan attendant at Watkins Glen International. Throughout his life, he and his family spent a tremendous amount of time camping, creating friendships and enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of open wheel and sports car racing. Jim was an avid reader and music connoisseur. Most importantly, he shared his love for family by creating memories and moments for them to always cherish.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Mark T. Huggins, of Williamsport and Keith A. Huggins (Melanie), of Williamsport; three grandchildren, Natalie, Katelyn, and Sarah and a sister-in-law Donna Jobson-Smeak of Florida.
He was preceded in death by a brother in law, Robert T. Smeak.
The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. A memorial service to honor the life of James will be held following the visitation at 3 p.m. at Sanders Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Jim’s name may be made to the International Motor Racing Research Center, 610 S. Decatur Street, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
