James Alvin Johnson Sr., 82, of Williamsport, passed on April 28, 2025 surrounded by his beloved family.
He was born in Morris Run on October 1, 1942, a son to the late Alvin and Catherine (Arbogast) Johnson.
James was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Church, now St. Joseph the Worker Parish. He was a graduate of Canton Area High School, and went on to receive a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. He worked for the majority of his life as an accountant for Textron, the former Avco Corp. Most recently, he worked for his close friend, Gary Smith, at Smith & Associates as an accountant.
James was a proud Veteran, having served in the 35th Field Artillery Division during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1.
He married his beloved wife, the former Anna Marie Rosato, on August 14, 1971, and they celebrated 53 years together before his passing.
An avid Phillies fan, he loved baseball. He coached both sons at Memorial Little league, Babe Ruth, and American Legion Post 1 teams, and took yearly trips with his sons to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.
In addition to his wife, Anna Marie Johnson, James is survived by his sons, Rick (Melissa) Johnson and Jamie (Stephanie) Johnson, both of Williamsport; grandchildren Lindsay (Tyler) Scott and Nicholas Johnson; great-grandson Theo Scott; as well as his beloved Chihuahua, Toby.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother in law, Barbara and Ronald Mix, in addition to his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, May 2, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th St., Williamsport PA 17701 with Rev. David W. Bechtel officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania at SOPA – The Susquehanna Valley Region, Attn: Donations, 270 Walker Dr., Suite 201-A, State College, PA 16801 with James’ name in the memo; or to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 711 W. Edwin St., Williamsport PA 17701.
