Irene Smith, 88, of Trout Run, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Born January 30, 1936, in Kellyburg, she was a daughter of the late Garret and Bertha (Wettlaufer) Smith. She was married to the late, Paul E. Waugh, Sr., and shared many wonderful years together.

Irene joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served her country honorably. She was a life member of the Korean War Veterans Association of Lycoming County, the Marine Corps League, and the Red Run Rod and Gun Club.

Irene was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed having an adult beverage with Wild Bill and Josie. Irene loved to garden and be outdoors. She was an avid dog lover and adored her dog, Clover.

She is survived by two daughters, Debora L. (Robert) Mahonski of Trout Run, and Rita E. (John) Merril of Trout Run; brother, Edward Smith; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Paul E. Waugh, Jr.; a daughter, Barbara Trafford; five brothers; and five sisters.

Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
