Harvey E. Yancey, 73

Harvey E. Yancey, 73, of Williamsport, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at his home. Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Shirley A. (Ryder) Yancey.

Born July 14, 1944, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Harry Yancey and Helen (Mayo) Hendry.
Harvey served in the U.S. Army and later retired from the U.S. Army National Guard after 25 years of service.

He was employed as a prison guard for 21 years at SCI Cresson, SCI Muncy, and retired from SCI Rockview as a Captain in 2004. Following his retirement he was employed through Student Transportation of America as a school bus driver for the Williamsport Area School District.

He was a member of Crossroads Church of the Nazarene, Milton and a former member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene, Williamsport for many years. He enjoyed working on cars, but most of all he loved and cherished being a husband, father and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife are his children, Helena N. Floyd (Mitchell), Wesley H.E. Yancey, Nadera F. Hoyt (Jeffrey), and April M. Yancey (Shannon Tutler), all of Williamsport; eight grandchildren, Nyric Gosley, Madison Marchese, Amayah Joiner, Mia Rainier, Cierra Rainier, Nylah Ford, Avani Rainier, and Claire Hoyt; three sisters, Helena Richardson and Joanne Yancey, both of Maryland, and Emma Tramble, of Philadelphia; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Muriell C. Yancey and a brother, Anderson Tramble.

In keeping with his wishes there will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 3200 Lycoming Creek Road, Williamsport, with Pastor Louis H. Gatti officiating.
