H. George Hinston, 94

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, H. George Hinston went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. George was 94, born on March 28, 1930, in Williamsport. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen (Richey) Hinston, his parents Lair and Ruth (Ulmer) Hinston, a brother Richard Hinston, and two sisters Sarah Brown and Nancy Beattie. George is survived by his daughter Nancy Reiff and his son-in-law Jeffrey Reiff of Williamsport, two grandchildren Andrew Reiff of Williamsport and Susan Reiff of Philadelphia. George is also survived by a brother James (Ann) Hinston of Williamsport, brother-in-law Frank Beattie of Williamsport and sister-in-law Barbara Hinston of Montoursville.

Geroge graduated from the old Williamsport High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in October 1950 during the Korean conflict, spent four years at Lackland Air Force Base in the Hospital Medical Group as a medical corpsman. In June 1951, he married his high school sweetheart, Eileen Richey. After his honorable discharge as a Staff Sargeant, he enrolled at Lycoming College. He graduated in 1958 with a BA degree with a major in mathematics. He was hired that fall by Montoursville Area School District to teach mathematics. During his 31 years he taught grades 7 through 12. He also obtained a MA degree in education from Bucknell University in 1965.

During his teaching years he was President of the Montoursville Area Education Association, President of the Lycoming County Association, President of the Central Region PSEA and served on the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania State Education Association for six years (1979-1985). Upon his retirement from Montoursville in 1989, he became associated with Kades-Margolis Corp. selling financial products to teachers.

Upon his retirement in 2010 from KMC, he became involved with his church with Sojourner Truth Ministries and then the West End Christian Community Center where he served on the Board of Directors for five years, two years as Treasurer. He also was involved in Bible Study Fellowship for fourteen years.

George was a member of Faith Church in Montoursville, served as Chairman of the Administrative Board in the early 1970’s, served on several committees and sang in the choir for many years. He last served on the Church Council. George finally retired from everything in 2019, at the age of 89. George spent many of his final years doing sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, playing dominoes and enjoying his family and grandchildren.

Services to honor George’s life will be held at a later date.
