Gregory J. Leta, 72, formerly of Williamsport, passed away peacefully while surrounded by loving family at Muncy Place on Jan. 17, 2025.
Greg was born in Williamsport on November 17, 1952, a son of James V. and Mary T (Arduini) Leta.
He was a 1971 graduate of Williamsport High School and was employed at the former Grit Publishing, and in the steel industry, working for steel mills in the area. Greg was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, now St. Joseph the Worker Parish. In his early years Greg enjoyed the family picnics and weekly Sunday visits to grandparent homes with his aunts, uncles and cousins. Over the last 18 years he cherished and fostered the many friendships at both the Hillside Assisted Living Community and Muncy Place Senior Community, with both patients and staff.
In addition to his many friends, he is survived by his sister; Barbara Franchella (Joseph) of Lewes, DE; brother, Mark Leta (Deborah) of Peru, NY; nephews and nieces, Nicole Lehman (Chris) of Harbeson, DE, Michael Franchella (Jill) of Lexington, MA, Matthew Leta (Katie Vander Kraats) of Williston, VT, Ashley Leta (Quinn Ledak) of Essex Junction, VT; great nieces, Emma, Rilyn and Mady Lehman and Lilly Franchella; aunts, Josephine Arduini of Jersey Shore, Rose Gephart and Patricia Fawber both of Williamsport, along with many cousins and extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. 4th St. Williamsport with his pastor, Rev. David W. Bechtel officiating. The family will greet family and friends in the rear of the church, from 9:15 until 9:45 as they are being seated for mass. Burial will follow mass at Wildwood Cemetery, where he will be buried next to his parents.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Greg’s name may be made to the Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd, Williamsport, PA 17701 to benefit the activities fund at Muncy Place Senior Community.
