George J. Calta, 88, of Williamsport, died peacefully, Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at his home.
Born February 13, 1930 in Williamsport, he was a son of Frank Calta and Timperia “Nonnie” M. (Giacomi) Calta Lehman.
George worked for the PA Railroad, and then working for Stroehmann’s Bakery on Washington Boulevard until his retirement. Following retirement he worked part-time at Sanders Mortuary for over 20 years. George was an avid hunter and was an avid gardener who shared the fruits of his labors with his friends and family. He could often be found drinking coffee with the guys. He loved all his dogs Sam 1, Sam 2, and Eddie.
Surviving are five children Georgene Gardner (Scott) of Williamsport, George Calta, Jr. (Donna) of Bowling Green, KY, Keith Calta (Kathy) of Reisterstown, MD, Leslie Dietz of Harrisburg and Michele Batkowski (Paul) of Montoursville, 11 grandchildren Victoria and Scott Gardner, Misty, Amber, Courtney, and George John Calta, Sarah Calta, David, Keith and James Batkowski, and Michael Dietz, seven great grandchildren, a cousin – sister, Sandra Hughes (Tim) of Loyalsock and step-brother David Lehman, Jr. (Polly) of South Williamsport.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-father David Lehman, Sr., and two brothers Frank and Joseph Calta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 West Fourth St. Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport.
