Francis X. “Fran” Dincher, 65, passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025. He leaves behind his daughter Jamie Kouba, son-in-law, Phil, and his beloved granddaughter Jessica. One of ten brothers and sisters, he also leaves behind nine siblings, Paul “Skip” Dincher Jr. (Vicki), Susan D. Fowler, William Dincher (Liz), Patrick Dincher (Peg), Charles Dincher, Daniel Dincher (Shelly), Bonnie Dincher, Christine Waldman (Jim), and Harold Smith (Angie); a sister-in-law, Diane Dincher; 21 nieces and nephews; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Born February 16, 1960 in Williamsport he was a son of the late, Paul and June (Quay) Dincher. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Michael R. Dincher, and nephew, Rob Fowler.
Fran was an avid outdoorsman from the time he was a little boy. He grew up on the mountain ridges of Lycoming County where he developed a deep love of hunting, fishing, and nature. He had a deep appreciation of nature, life sciences, and animals. He was a well-loved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend.
He graduated from South Williamsport High school in 1979. He joined the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged. He went on to become a heavy machine equipment operator and eventually fulfilling his dream of becoming a gunsmith. He was an active member of the NRA and belonged to the White Deer Valley Hunting Club and Cooked Shot Hunting Club. Fran was employed at PMF for over 10 years. He was also a huge fan of roller coasters and would try to make an annual trek to Knoebels. And if rollercoasters weren’t enough fun, he also loved to sky dive!
Although he lived a simple life, he gave the very best of himself to his family and friends. He was “there” for everyone. Fran was the guy you called if you needed to move, needed an extra hand with a project, help dragging a deer out of the woods, or needed anything. After selling his last truck, he often joked that he couldn’t own a truck anymore because he was too old to help people move.
He loved his family and tried to never miss a holiday or sporting event. He was a fiercely dedicated grandfather to Jessica and a loyal and loving supporter of his nieces and nephews. There are few who participated in an athletic event that weren’t able to look up in the stands and see Fran sitting there cheering them on. Fran loved good food, country music, and of course the Nittany Lions and Steelers. His loss will be felt widely and deeply.
He requested that no funeral or services be performed and the family will be honoring his wishes with a “Going Away Party” instead. Family and friends are invited to the Nippenose Tavern from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday March 13th for Fran’s Going Away Party. Please wear Blue, Green, or Camo to honor him. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Pennsylvania SPCA or the Wildlife for Everyone Endowment.
