Floyd G. Gortner, 91, of Montoursville, left this earthly life Saturday, December 14, 2024, at UPMC Williamsport, surrounded by loved ones.
Born on April 26, 1933, in Upper Fairfield Township, he was a son of the late Walter and Elsie (Oberfell) Gortner.
Floyd was a 1951 graduate of Montoursville Area High School and a Korean War Veteran. He retired from PPL after 25 years of service and previously worked at Montour Auto/Silica Sand Co/Montour Trading (Farm). He was an active member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church for over 75 years holding various board positions. He was a member of Eugene Grafius American Legion Post 104 Montoursville, Highland Lake 40 & 8 Club, the Pleasant Hill Hunting Club, and Eureka Lodge Number 335. He was a 32nd degree mason at the Scottish Rite Williamsport Consistory.
He enjoyed spending time with friends and family especially his grandchildren, hunting, farming, gardening, snowmobiling, western square dancing and Penn State football.
Upon retirement, Floyd restored the circa 1830’s log home where he was born on the family farm in Kaiser Hollow. He created the ultimate gathering place for all future generations of the family to enjoy.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Norma Jean, of Montoursville; a daughter, Elaine Steward, of Montgomery; a grandson, Zachary (Sara) Clark, of Montoursville; a granddaughter, J. Abigail (Miles) Laubacher, of Montoursville; a great-grandson, Floyd Laubacher, of Montoursville; a sister, Charlotte Probst, of Shrewsbury, Pennsylvania; and a nephew, Emerson J. Probst III of Hampstead, Maryland.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Clayton Steward and a nephew, Douglas Probst.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2024, at Webster Cemetery (Huntersville), 5263 Rabbittown Rd, Muncy, Pa., with Pastor Michael Hill officiating.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to Janet Weis Children’s Hospital or Lycoming County Veterans.
