Eleanor Louise Mutchler, 91, of Cogan Station, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at home while surrounded by her loving family.
She was the devoted wife of the late A. Neil Mutchler, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2011. Born September 10, 1932, in Hummels Wharf, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Harold F. and Laura E. (Newcomer) Springman. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Springman in 2023.
Eleanor graduated from Williamsport High School in 1950. She earned a pre-standard banking certificate from the American Institute of Banking through Bucknell University. Eleanor started working at the First National Bank in Milton in 1953 and continued her banking career at the First National Bank in Montoursville. After several mergers, she retired from Meridian Bank as a loan officer in 1996.
Eleanor broke her promise to “never marry a farmer” when she wed the love of her life Neil Mutchler on May 12, 1956. With Neil by her side, she found her God-given purpose, devoting herself to her daughters and grandchildren and caring for her husband and in-laws when chronic illness set in. She did so in the most self-sacrificing and loving way possible, inspiring those she leaves behind. She was a faithful member of Balls Mills United Methodist Church, praying daily throughout her life.
Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Taylor (Paul), Barbara Willier (Bruce), and Jane Zarker (Doug); a sister Virginia Springman; a sister-in-law, Shirley Springman, and six grandchildren, Katherine and Jacob Hutcheson, Travis Willier, Allison Willier Hill (Ryan), Bethany and Jeremy Taylor.
A funeral service to honor the life of Eleanor will be held 11 a.m. Monday, January 22, 2024 at Balls Mills United Methodist Church, 5941 Bloomingrove Road, Cogan Station. Burial will follow in Balls Mills Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21 at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond St. Williamsport.
