Effie T. “Sissy” Engelman, 94, a former resident of Montgomery, PA, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021 at Leighton Place in Williamsport. Born Friday, July 23, 1926 at Milton, Northumberland Co, PA she was a daughter of the late Fred W. and Alma B. (Bleeze) Taylor. She was the widow of Wilbur C. Engelman who preceded her in death on November 28, 2012. His death broke a marital union of almost 67 years.
Effie was a 1944 graduate of Montgomery-Clinton High School.
Effie was formerly employed as an elementary school secretary at Cheektowaga, NY and retired from LDI at Montgomery where she was employed as a secretary.
She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, a member of the Valley Hatters, a former member and past president of the Montgomery Area School Board for over 10 years and a member and past president of the Montgomery Senior Citizens.
Effie is survived by one son, Douglas N. and wife Debra Engelman of Milton; two grandchildren, Meghan and husband Christopher Young of Jeanette and Corey D. Engelman and fiancee Lilian Matos of Brooklyn, NY; two great-grandchildren, Cadence and Madison Young and and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, William R. Engelman in 1972 and two brothers, Raymond R. Taylor and Fred R. Taylor.
A celebration of Effie’s life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. from the St. John Lutheran “Brick” Church, 196 Brick Church Road, Montgomery, PA 17752.
